    Hi Guys,
I've been reading some posts about the partitions and bloatware that come with the inspiron machines. My question is, for a slightly less advanced pc user, is removing the bloatware difficult? Is there any list of bloatware, or a list of things which can be safely removed? Can anyone explain to me what's worth keeping and what's better to just remove to begin with?
    Thanks in advance :)

I received my Inspiron this week (1501), and there was only Norton installed on it. I guess this would be the exception rather than the norm. But removing bloatware is as simple as going in control panel -> add & remove programs, and uninstalling it.

I formatted and installed XP anyway.

You can minimize the bloatware when customizing by choosing options like "No productivity software", "No photo & music software", "No ISP", etc.
The few things that are left (like antivirus and google toolbar) you can uninstall in the control panel if you want.

It should not be difficult. Go to Control Panel-Add and Remove Program to remove the program that you don't need. However, if the bloatware does not bother you or does not slow your machine down at all, just leave it on. Once you get used to the computer, you will find out which programs you don't need and delete them then. Just DO NOT drag and drop the program folder into the recycle bin, always use uninstall or add and remove program to remove softwares.

Or you can use this. http://www.yorkspace.com/pc-de-crapifier/

I hear a lot of people just reformat when they get it though. It seems like a pretty major solution to a small problem, so I figured the bloatware must be pretty bloaty :D. Is a reformat really worth it? I've never experienced the dell bloatware and partitions, so I'm not sure if I should clean install it or not... My laptop arrives in 2 days... it's an inspiron 1520

You get a significant performance boost if you do a clean installation IMO.

NO. Simply use Program Uninstall/Install in CONTROL PANEL to get rids of unwanted applications and starts enjoy your new toy. 1420 w/ Windows VISTA ROCKS!

Does any one know what is and what it does (mine is in spanish, but to translate) Media Manager Services? Is something I guess provided by Roxio CDCreator, and is related with MediaSpace and LiveShare. I have no clue what that means.... It comes everytime I start the computer. Can it be shut down permanently?

    Thanks !!!
