I just got my system, and overall am very happy with the machine, but I am now wondering if I should have gone with the WSXGA screen instead of the WXGA. I read other posts and it sounds like the majority prefers the WXSGA, but I just wish I could see them side by side to compare.

Could anyone post pictures of the two screen types with the same image?

I've heard the tradeoff with the WSXGA is a smaller font and icon size, and it sounds like some of them have a light bleeding problem. My wXGA seems to avoid this issue, and the clarity is actually quite decent. I checked my system summary at dell's site (using my service tag) and found that my screen is actually made by Quanta Display Inc.

I use my laptop mainly for work, but I also do some photo and web design stuff and definitely can appreciate high resolution graphics...just not sure if its worth going to the trouble of sending this back for the upgrade.

Any advice would be appreciated...or maybe if someone in the Santa Cruz area has a WSXGA screen that I could check out?

    Thanks in advance....

I just got an E1705 with true life WUXGA and I am unhappy with the DVD playback on this screen. In large mode the screen is a bit grainy, but when minimized it looks fantastic. Those in the know are telling me is normal considering the native resolution 1920X1200. It is not horrible, but it is not what I expected when I went with WUXGA either. Dell support recommended upgrading the Video drivers, but I'm not optimistic that will solve the problem.

Mine is with 1680X1050 WSXGA, and I'm very satisfied - the font size is not too small for me at all. Sorry, I don't have a digital camera to post a picture.

If you got the WSXGA, I think your native resolution is 1680 x 1050, not 1280 x 800. Right? I am trying to figure out if you got the higher res display or not.

Could someone with the higher resolution screen please do a "print screen" or two and then paste that into an email and send it to me?

I would really love to see just how small those icons and fonts are, as well as how sharp the image appears, to help me decide.

    Thanks all.

interesting. i have the wuxga and dvd playback is crystal clear at any sized window (including fullscreen). i'm running the omega drivers, but if IIRC, it was crystal clear with the factory dell drivers too.

I have a 15.4" screen with the WSXGA+ option and I think the text is far too small, especially when viewing websites. I've tried adjusting the resolution, DPI, and zoom level in the browsers options but nothing really works right. Also, from looking at the screen shot above, that looks proper to me but when viewing webpages on my screen, the site takes up 1/3 in the middle and looks very small and zoomed out. For those that have the 15.4" screen, what settings do you have it on? (DPI, font size, zoom level, etc.). Where do i find these programs in IE or Dell to help adjust things?. Any help would be appreciated.
