I'm considering buying one of these computers? Any advice, experience, or comments would be welcomed.

i have been using the 640m for almost a week now and i love it! its great! It looks OK, but I dont know why Dell put that white stripe on the case??? Its nice and light, i can carry it wherever i go. The downsides about this laptop is the Intel GMA 950, not many games you can play on it :( . People also complain about the light leakage on the screen but it aint that bad, you can only notice it if you want to notice it (know what i mean?). Also the screen does not fit snug when it is closed, there is still a bit of freeplay.
i have the 9-cell battery and it lasts me about 6 hours using wifi, word, the internet and some music.

I have never used a D520 but i hope that helped
    :D

The 640m is a multimedia oriented machine. It has multimedia buttons, media card reader, and widescreen display (with option for glossy screen).

The Latitude D520 is a budget business oriented machine. It has a standard 4:3 display and no multimedia buttons or media card reader.

Buy the machine that suits your needs best. If you do a lot of media related work, go with the Inspiron. If you just need an inexpensive and durable Office and web machine, go with the Latitude.

thanks, very helpful. Turns out that I don't think I will get either one. I was leaning heavily toward the Inspiron until I saw some great closeup pictures of it. I hate that white edging!
