I'm a day or two away from popping for a Core Duo Inspiron E1505. Since I use a notebook 99% of the time on my lap, heat is an issue. As a benchmark I now use a Inspiron 1100 on my lap, its noticeably warm but seldom hot.

Since I expect user reviews of the E1505 don't exist, the 6000 is nearly identical so it would be a good gauge. BTW, chipset graphics are just fine, less power, heat and cost.

So to all Inspiron 6000 owners, please tell me your laptop thermal stories.

    Thanks,
    Hermit

I don't know if this will be uselful or not, but thought I would post since the 6000 is similar to the 9300.

Mine normally runs around 35 degrees Celsius when I'm multitasking (fans rarely turn on). The only really hot part is the RAM area because it is in the center of the laptop and isn't well ventilated.

I have bought Inspiron 6000 and I dont know about its exact temp, but I've tried it on my lap and it's not hot even after long use. Compared to Toshiba A80, A80 runs much hotter especially especially if it's used on the lap

Agreed, I have an i6000 and it runs fairly cool most of the time, unless you are doing something heavy like gaming. The only part that gets real warm is the RAM. It won't be a problem on your lap at all.

I think I1705 is hot - right side where 7800 is has 60 degrees (in office job!) and blow hot air into you knee.

There are desks for your lap...available at newegg.com so you won't have those issues, even has space for a mouse. If you were looking to solve that problem. :)

    Hope this helps.

I was worried about the heat on the E1705, but honestly it's no worse than my prior 2 laptops - a toshiba and a thinkpad

    Thanks USAFdude02,

I've considered those, but its just another widget to transfer from the table to my lap. I'm sure once on my lap or spread across the chair arms it would be delightful. Just more to deal with, Hermit's are minimalist.

I actually think the Core Duo will be less toasty than my Celeron based I 1100, so I'm optimistic. Will know in 3-weeks, supposed to ship 3-22. I used this site's link, so maybe a few affiliate pennies will show in Brian's account.

Core Duo runs very cool, so your computer shouldn't get too hot, for E1705 it gets hot and main reason is GTX7800 Graphics Card which gets hot.
