My screen LCD stopped turning off when I shut the laptop lid. It remains glowing and hot, so I had to install a program that I could use to manually power off the LCD before I closed it.

Around the same time the LCD stopped shutting off, I got another problem. If I turn on my computer and then close the lid while it's booting up, when I open it again the screen is completely black and nothing I do can get it on again. I have to restart the computer by holding the power button or hitting ctrl-alt-dlt enough times to reboot.

Are these things linked? Someone on another forum said to check if ATI hotkey poller was disabled in the services tab--I don't seem to have that service at all. Does anyone know why this is happening??
