The sound on an old Inspiron E1505 running Windows 7 64 bit quit on me about a month ago. I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to fix it.

I searched online and people have been saying to download and install the SigmaTel audio driver, but there's nothing for 64-bit systems. I tried the Windows Vista 32-bit one and it encountered an error and wouldn't install.

Anything I can do or is it time to throw this old computer out? I know for a fact that the sound was working before. It just quit suddenly. I don't understand it either.

Does anything show in device manager? If you want to chuck it away, you could always give it to me. :D

So under Sound, video and game controllers nothing for audio? Right click and scan for hardware changes. If nothing appears your sound card may have died.

There is no "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers". Am I looking in the wrong place? It goes straight from "SD Host Adapters" to "System Devices".

Well if nothing shows up, your onboard sound may have died. Try hooking 3.5mm speakers up to it.
