I bought an Inspiron E1505 and want to reinstall Windows from a Windows CD. Problem is, I dont know what drivers I need to install after to get everything working.

I tried asking on Dell live chat support, but the guy on there was both a moron and an arsehole. I tried their tool that probes the hardware, but it misses out on all kinds of ****. The manual that came with it tells me nothing, and I didnt get any CD containing drivers for anything other than my sound.

Some of the drivers like the graphics card are easy to choose, but some, like the display I have no idea, and dont know where to find out. Is there any tool I can download that does a decent job or probing?

    Thanks

EDIT: The computer model is MM061, dont know if thats relevent

Ok, I think I have got them all figured out now, except for the display. I have no idea which driver to choose. The options are:

    Dell 1707FP
    Dell 1707FPc
    Dell 1707FPt
    Dell 1907FP
    Dell 1907FPc
    Dell 1907FPt
    Dell 2407WFP
    Dell E156FPb
    Dell E156FPc
    Dell E156FPf
    Dell E176FPb
    Dell E176FPc
    Dell E176FPf
    Dell E176FPm
    Dell E177FPb
    Dell E177FPf
    Dell E177FPm
    Dell E196FPb
    Dell E196FPf
    Dell E773c-ULD
    Dell E773s

My screens default resolution is 1680 x 1050 if that helps

that's for if you have a dell display which would be an external monitor. if you installed the chipset, video card, audio, trackpad, wireless, and NIC ethernet (i think that's it) you should be fine.

I had the same problem the first time I looked for drivers too.
Don't look at the drivers cd, the drivers are old and is very dificult to find the right one, download them from dell.com, if you're not sure what driver is the rigth for your hardware go to My PC->Properties->Hardware->Device Manager there you'll find if you have the drivers installed and see what kind of hardware you have so you can get the right driver, especially for hardware that's hard to identify like cd-roms.
