Hi--I inherited my mother's Dell laptop. The battery has not worked for a yr, so use it with the electrical cord always plugged in.

I want to get a battery so I can go without cords sometimes. I have read that the battery isn't very good.( I attest to that). What non-Dell batteries, if any, work on this laptop?

Any suggestions to get a DEAD battery re-charged??

If the battery is dead, its dead no point of trying to revive it. I know there are some places online that sell replacement batteries i mainly get mine on ebay and just hope you get a good one.

My dell battery in my 2 yr old XPSm1710 (which is basically the same laptop as yours) still holds over an hour and a half charge. Dell Batts are fine. Keep in mind there are two types of batteries to chose from, a 53 watt hour and 80 watt hour. The 80 watt hour holds more juice and therefore lasts longer. -Goodspeed
