I have my laptop in my room, and I usually leave it on when I go to bed, but I can always hear it clicking up a storm when it's not even processing anything. When it's Idling, it just keeps clicking.

    What can I do?

My brother has the exact same laptop model and everything but his never does this.

Why do you need to leave it on at night? Can't you put your laptop to sleep?

Maybe the hard drive is going bad. If you are under warranty, talk to Dell and convince them to replace your hard drive. If you aren't, wait for a good deal on a new hard drive and replace it yourself; they aren't that expensive. You can also try to look in your BIOS to see if you have an option for your hard drive to be in certain modes and look to see if the Acoustic Dampening mode is on. If it is and the problem persists, then the only option is to replace the drive.

k thanks. Yeah i went in the BIOS already and put the acoustic mode on quiet, but it didn't really do anything. Good thing it's under warranty.

Try Notebook Hardware Control software. On the HDD settings, put your hard drive to max performance.
