Dell/Singapore has started selling the AMD/ATI equipped M301Z.

Inspiron M301z: Dell's first laptop to take on AMD's new dual-core Neo -- Engadget

If it is introduced in the US at the projected price of $715, Dell will probably have a winner on its hands. It is a beautiful 13.3" laptop. I like it more than the 13R design which looks too much like the butt ugly mini 10. The 301Z refines the back end of the machine and brings the display out to the end of the bottom-half.

Now, take that aluminum design, stick an I5-540M or I7-620M in it with a HD 5650 or HD 5670 GPU. :D

For the past 2 days, i didn't notice the new addition until today. Been following new on the new release on business product range recently.

I have looked at the configuration of the most basic model, to my surprise, at about the same value, the malaysian market release packed with a optical drive while the singapore configuration does not!

Compare to other 13inchers from the whole DELL product range, this new addition will be a direct threat to the Inspiron 13z with INTEL CULV processors.

The other's(Inspiron 13, Inspiron 13r, Vostro v13, Latitude 13, Vostro v3300*) will probably have to spend a harder time to catch attention from potential buyers.(*some carries 6 cell batt, while some may not)

Inspiron M, Inspiron V, Inspiron R... yet no new Studios...

    Studio line being discontinued?

    Just speculating.

A few months ago, we were told by a dell rep on another thread that the 13 xps was unable to accomodate the new arrandales. The model was taken off the market and is being redesigned. It was supposto take 6 months, but my guess is they will try to get it out before the fall. I don't really expect to see one anytime soon.

Dell is refreshing the Studio XPS 16, which has proven to be a good seller for Dell. With the obvious market demand for high spec'd 13.3 notebooks, Dell would be crazy to discontinue the XPS.

I have been working for the past 2 months with an 11.6" Acer 1410T. I would like a more comfortable daily work machine but have been waiting for an I7-620M/HD5650 notebook. If the 3820TG I7-620M is released in the US, I will get one of them. If the Studio is released first and it is comparable, I will get the XPS 13.

I would probably prefer the Dell. It will probably have a backlit keyboard and a 1600 x 900 display. Did Dell ever make a RGBLED display for the old XPS 13?

Edit: just saw the new pics of the M301Z - it has a plastic bottom? The original picture looked like it was metal all the way to the bottom. If not, I like it less. :(

Dell currently has a gaping hole in their offering line-up. A "well powered" small laptop in the "higher" (not highest) level bracket (XPS 13, Studio 13/14). How they can leave that gap until the fall is beyond me. (oh, and I'm just b1tching because it frustrates the hell out of me! I need the new 13" XPS now!)

They need to put 1080p res in a 13.3" screen

Looks promising. But I'm not sure about AMD processors, a white plastic base (although its clearly metal in the Dell promo pictures), or the lid that looks like a fingerprint disaster.

White plastic base looks fugly. Cheapens the whole look. NVM.
