I've got a year and a half old Dell Inspiron M5010. About a month ago, I was using it and the screen became garbled. Rebooting it didn't fix the problem. I put in the recovery disc and it didn't seem to have any issues displaying that, so I performed a full recovery and didn't have any further problems.

Fast forward to this evening. I was using it and the screen went black. I rebooted, and nothing. The power light and hard drive light would come on, but that was it. Also, I could simply press the power button and it would turn off. I wouldn't have to hold it down. I took the battery out, put it back in, tried again with no luck. I tried it on just battery power and just corded, with no luck. Finally, it booted up with the garbled screen. I rebooted again and it booted right up like nothing was wrong. It also seems very sluggish at times, freezing up for a second or two intermittently.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I might be facing here? All the drivers are up to date and all the Windows updates are installed. Thanks!

    Hi Jp11283,

My name is Deepa and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell. Please check the screen in BIOS. Please turn on the system and immediately keep on tapping F2 key to enter set up. You need to check the screen is still garbled or not. If the screen is clear in BIOS then it can be an issue with operating system or video drivers. You can also check with an external monitor if you have. You can run a test to check the LCD screen, the steps are as follows:-
    >Press and hold the FN key (near the CTRL key), while holding that key try to turn on the system
    >Screen will start changing colors and if those colors are solid and the screen is not garbled or blurry that means your LCD is fine

Please update the latest BIOS and Video drivers of your system . You can refer to this link :-

Hope this information will help you and for further assistance please reply
