Hi, I'm having such a tedious problem with my touchpad.
It works greatly when I'm using it continuously, but it seems to be "idle" when I don't. I'll try to explain better with an example: while I'm reading a web page I usually scroll it up and down with the keyboard arrows BUT when I return to the touchpad (i.e. to tap into a text field) it doesn't move instantly... I have to repeat that gesture one or more times till it decides to move!
Does anyone have an idea of how to fix this problem?

In other posts I found there's a parameter named "idle time", that is the time you have to wait since the last keyboard button press. But I didn't find it possible to modify or set this parameter in the Control Panel>Mouse>Touchpad options.

I figured it could also be a driver inefficiency (I'm using the default one by Alps Electric, version 7.1209.101.204) but I'm not an expert on this stuff, so I hope someone could help!
    Thanks in advance,

    Lannto

I would sugges you to do the following:
If you have the dell alps tp driver - uninstall it.
    Then reboot.
After reboot use it with the driver which windows left to work with.
Just adjust the pointer speed @ max setting.
There is no other cure, and there will not be any ever :(

This comes from my 24 hour struggle with random alps drivers to make the darn touch pad work normally (it stutters, freezes, not-scrolling and not "feeling my fingertip"). That is my advice untill you get a proper usb/wl mouse. Cheers!
