I was wondering if anyone knows what Dells strategy is as far as putting a new series of graphics cards in their notebooks?

Mainly, when the Geforce Go 8 series comes out in May/June, will XPS be the only system with one or will the top Insprion (E1705 or it's replacement) get an 8600 or 8400 (one of the lower end 8 series cards)?

If the 8 series starts out XPS only, does the 7950 GTX go to the Inspiron family?

How did they handle the 7 series cards when they were first released?

I've heard that the E1705 can fit a 7950 GTX card if you remove a unneeded plastic piece (which I'm assuming Dell put in there to keep people from putting the GTX in there). Unless there is a new line of Inspiron notebooks, I'd guess the GTX card will move down when the 8 series is released but wondered what they did in this situation for the 7 series.

Hopefully my question makes sense. In a nutshell, what card (if any) do you think will move to the Inspiron when the 8 series is released.

I read that when Santa Rosa comes out in May, the geforce 8400 and 8600 will become available. No one however which card each laptop will use. However I don't know which card the xps will use as the 8800 isn't ready for prime-time till Q3 '07.

The 8600 will probably at least become an option on the XPS right away.

Wonder where the 8600 and 8400 will fall at in terms of power.

Would the 8400 be better than the 7900 GS? I'm guessing no since it's a low end card for the 8 series, which are generally not for gamers but who knows.

I highly doubt the 8400 will be more powerful than the 7900gs. I think gamers, especially those planning on playing future dx10 releases will want at least the 8600.
