I just purchased a new 1721 from DELL. I took out my current 5400rpm SATA HD to install this 7200 RPM sata HD( http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16822145160 ) . However when I pulled my old HD out, it appeared to have a different pin connection. It had all these pins. Did I purchase the wrong type of HD? I thought SATA was a SATA connection. Weird. Any help would be great.

    Thanks.

pull the pin adapter off the drive that came in your dell and put it on the new one.

If you bought a true SATA drive, you will not see any individual pins. I think the drive you got was PATA, which dell used an adapter on the drive before putting it in the laptop for this older interface.

EDIT: After checking the link, you definitely bought the wrong drive. Make sure it says "SATA" and not "ATA" or "PATA".....

It said SATA on the HD (my dell factory stock). The HD I bought did not have any individual pins. My connection to my motherboard had a female end pins where it needs to be connected to.

I believe nizzy is correct. I think I need to take the adaptor off the stock HD and then attach to the SATA hd so it will attach to the mobo.

P.S. I clicked my link to confirm. My link above is a SATA.
