My sister's hard drive on her old Inspiron 2500 died a few months ago. She has been using Knoppix on it just to be able to use it, but she could not save anything (no hard drive).
The other day, one time I turned it on with the Knoppix CD in, and it loaded Windows XP and detected the hard drive.
Does this mean the hard drive isn't corrupt, but maybe just disconnected internally or something? Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks

hmmm...Well im not 100% sure if this will work or if i am sure what you are talking about but...do a right click on the drive and defrag it, or do the fix system files option or see if you can see it in device manager? (all of this is of course if you can even get it to boot to windows)...and lastly try to physically disconnect the drive and just make sure there is no dirt on the pins or anything else (try an use thoes air blowers you can get at staples or something) after all that obvisiously re-connect the drive!...And im sorry if this is completly useless to you, Im just not sure if I understood your question

Another question: I know you get what you pay for; is buying a $70 60gb hard drive off ebay a bad decision?
Inspiron cant detect hard drive...except for the other day?
