Recently the volume keys on my e1405 have stopped working properly. When I press them, the volume display appears on the screen as normal, but the setting doesn't change no matter how many times I press the volume keys. I tried reinstalling QuickSet and the audio drivers, but nothing helped.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

My first guess would be you installed some software, intentionally or not, thats overiding the buttons, does the volume slider in the task bar function properly?

No, actually even when I say "display volume icon in the taskbar" in the control panel, the icon doesn't appear.

I'm checking into what new/unusual processes might be running now.
