A few months ago, my laptop was giving me issues and it turned out that one of RAM slots was fried (excuse the lay terms, as I don't pretend to be any expert here), which was preventing me from booting, evidenced by the flashing capslock & numlock keys. I opened the back and determined which slot wasn't working anymore, and tested both ram chips and found they were both working fine. Now, my question is, if anyone else has had this same problem and how they were able to remedy said problem. I'm worried I'll have to buy a new motherboard to fix it, but I might just be thinking worst case scenario. Any help I can get is greatly appreciated.

Yeah, a new motherboard is the only way to fix it. Either than or buy a RAM stick that has twice the capacity of one of your current single sticks.

But seriously, that's a bad thing...who knows if something else is wrong here.
