My mother's Dell Inspiron e1505 needs a new battery. However, after she did research, she said that the OEM Dell batteries are really bad, and that 3rd-party options (such as Rayovac) are better. I've always been told the opposite--that the OEM batteries are the best.
So my question is, should I get her an OEM Dell battery or a 3rd-party battery?

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
I think the third-party batteries are usually the ones referred to as OEM. The Dell batteries are "genuine". That might be where the confusion is.
What I've heard is consistent with what you've heard: batteries not made by Dell are generally worse than batteries made by Dell, regardless of what you want to call them. I would buy a genuine Dell-made battery, though probably not from Dell themselves. -
Thanks. That's what I thought: that genuine Dell batteries are the best, and that 3rd party options aren't as good. That said, what's the problem from ordering from Dell, exactly?

Dont buy rayovac or generic brand batteries. They will not work properly with her system.
I have the 6 cell battery in my E1505. Its model is: GD761
Its a 11.1V 53WHr battery.
I know their is a 9 cell battery for the E1505, but I dont know the model number off the top of my head.
You can buy the batteries from dell direct, or you can search "GD761" in google shopping. Their is bound to be a good e-tailer who has the battery cheaper than dell's website.

Hi,
just a word of advice, dell inspiron batteries don't last beyond 1 year of usage even with very low discharge cycles. see customer ratings for these batteries at dell site. -
