Hi guys, I just installed i8kfan, and my GPU (video card) temp seems to be higher than what I expected. I have GeForce 7900 GS (as per my sig)

What is the normal 'idle' temp for this GPU?

    Thanks

i8kfangui reports the temp to be 65+ degrees. The card is not overclocked, so that doesn't sound right to me.

hmmm..running 3dmark05/06 or any games have you noticed any artifacts? Also make sure that the vents aren't blocked with any dust or anything.

It's still a 20 watt part. I had hoped for lower temps moons ago ;)

    Here's my I8kfan graph, no OC or fans, 35 minute idle. This is my second 9700GS card, same temps as the first. See my I8kfan graph with +8C offset;

Here is mine, idle for about 1 hour, and it's 72 farenheit in my room now. This is with the fans set to low immediately after boot up.

you have your fan on slow, that's why the temperature is significantly different from hydra's

2 hydra: how did you figure out the GPU temperature offset?

I use to idle around 70-75 Celcius but now I'm at 55-58 with a notebook cooler. :D

My full load doesn't even get past 65. IT's AMAZING!

Open up your Nvidia control panel. On the left side under tasks you will see "monitor you temps"

You can use this to calibrate I8kfan by adding 8C or so till they agree. Adding the 8C is, also, covered in a lot of old threads.

The author of I8kfan is looking into it but just seems to be how and where the temperature is read.

    Cool! ....sorry ;)

Your fan monitors are not enabled? How do you know the fans aren't running?

Which brand and any noise wit your cooler?

When hard gaming my bios keeps GPU around 70 to 75C when I last checked.

2 hydra: thanks for the info. my current video driver doesn't display the temperatures, but it's good to know that the actual temp is ~8 degrees higher than the one displayed.
I'll install drivers with temperature monitoring if decide to overclock my card.
