I was wondering how easy it would be to paint a dell inspiron, as the look of my laptop is very important to me. I would probably buy one if it could be easily painted. Anyone have any experience with that?

I'm wondering, if you do this, that has got to void the warranty, right?

It's possible, but you have to be professional about it and do all the stages to make it look right. As for warranty, call up Dell and ask.

Course you could change the keyboards color, you can even paint your touch pad. Although there are somethings to consider when painting. One, can you actually paint good? Two, Painting your laptop will add some thickness to it(Although not much). Three, Are you willing to put all of those hours into painting it, and it might not turn out as good as you'd please. I personally wouldn't paint mine unless I was going to use automotive paint on it because its the only stuff strong enough. But to do that you basically have to have the right equipment.

    Anything is paintable, technically...

Of course, if you paint the keyboard, you might not be able to see the letters on the keys anymore.

Sure you can, its just like putting ants under a magnifying glass on a sunny day. You'll have a very eyecatching motherboard.

The inspirons are already painted, you gotta peel off their manufactured layer before you put your own paintjob on otherwise that stuff will come off. I've seen somebody who painted their inspiron a couple of years ago. It was originally silver and he decided to make it blue. 2 Years later....it looks like cr*p...the blue paints come off in a lot of places but it looks like it was an originally blue laptop that just got scratched up everywhere leaving silver trails all over.

Actually, they paint most circuit boards, with a clear non-conductive enamel paint. Its almost like a super glue. It helps protect them from being short circuited or anything like that. Almost all wires are coated in this stuff too, hence the reason that if you repair something you have to solder it, or burn the wires with a lighter to expose them and make it so it can conduct.

This could have been from his paint not bonding correctly to the surface of the laptop(Which would have been the original paint). I would suggest sanding your laptop before painting it, not necessarily sanding it until all of the silver was gone, but rather just scuffing the surface of it to make it so your paint would bond better. Then there are also bonding agents which help the new paint bond to the plastic of the laptop.
