When I close the screen to my laptop for more than just a couple of minutes, when I go to open up my laptop, the screen is blank. I then have to restart my computer.

When it turns back on, it says the problem was caused from a device error. I didn't know which it was, so I tried System Restore, but none of them work. I thought the problem was with SpyBot Search and Destory because when I clicked it, it said that "this program has been changed, since Spybot does not do this by itself, check your computer for viruses immediately!!"

I have Norton, and it says no viruses.

Could someone please help me out? Do I need to send my computer into Dell? Thank you for all the help in advance!!!!!

Make sure you have the most current version of Dell QuickSet (power management software). Check the driver downloads page of Dell Support for your machine. That might resolve the issue.

Ok I got the new QuickSet download. Which others should I check for?

I just got an email to my account that said something about e-gold and it is "highly likely you have a trojan virus on your computer," maybe Norton didn't catch it? I'm running Spyware doctor right now in hopes to remove, and I switched to FireFox.

    Any other help? Thank you.

Try Kasperky online virus scanner - see if it detects anything. I'm not going to go into if it's better than Norton (this thread isnt about that and that topic could go on forever). Personally, I prefer NAV however I have found Kaspersky can sometimes pick up on certain viruses whereas NAV misses them.

is it going into standby or hibernate? if so, are you waiting for it to come back before turning off your computer?

I tried that, says it found nothing. I'm wondering if SpyDoctor, which has found keyloggers, is saying that becaues it wants me to purchase the product?

It is not in standby or hibernate.

Whenever you close the screen on battery power, the system would automatically go either to stand by or hibernate depending on your settings, I have found out that if you don't allow enough time for it to go into full hibernate or stand by the screen would remain blank (That is completely normal). You should try closing the screen and then opening it again.

If you are hard shutting off the system by pressing and holding the power button, of course you might receive error messages when turning it back on.
