I did a quick search for this but didn't see anything definitive. Can you replace a M1530 screen with one from an Inspiron... AND is it worth it?
I mean I have not seen many threads about crappy Samsung screens in Inspirons. And if I am unsuccessful in getting an LG replacement from Dell myself... I am willing to buy a used Inspiron, swap screens with my M1530, then sell off the Inspiron. If I ended up losing a few bucks in the deal I really wouldn't care.
I went to BB yesterday and every single cheap-ass laptop in there had a screen that was 100 times better than the Samsung in my brand new M1530. I am dealing with Dell right now for a replacement but I want a Plan B.
Can anyone tell me if:
a. Swapping w/a Inspiron is as simple as installing a new M1530 screen.
b. What kind of screens come in the Inspirons (i.e. LG, Samsung etc...) and if you know about the quality of them.
Thanks mates!

This is what I posted in the grainy screen thread: "My xps also had the awful samsung screen that all of you speak of. I tried to live with it and just suck it up, but when my girl friend-- who knows nothing about computers-- asked me why my screen was so ugly I couldn't take it anymore. I made three attempts to get a replacement LG screen and was unsuccessful. (did get a $125 coupon though) Well, I got this xps 1530 as a replacement for my inspiron 1520 which I'm gladly sending back today. I've witnessed the major difference between the samsung and the LG first hand. My inspiron HAD a beautiful LG screen and my xps HAD a crappy Samsung. Now I say had because I just swapped the screens. =) It was actually very easy to do. The only real difference between the 1520 and 1530 was the brackets on the side of the screen."
Here are the two manuals on the dell site:

Most of the 1680x1050 inspirons come with Samsung screens too. I actually sent a 1520 back because it had a terrible grainy WSXGA+ Samsung screen too, so be careful buying a inspiron. Even though I had to purchase the LG myself I'm glad I did. It's a beautiful, perfect screen. My whole story is in post #813.
This is part of my post from the grainy screen thread:
At this point I had already decided I was getting a LG no matter what. So, I ordered a brand new XK309 exact part number LP154WE2 (TL) (B2) for $225 + overnight shipping. I called my onsite tech and updated him on the situation and told him I was ordering my own replacement screen. I asked him if he would mind installing it instead of the Samsung Dell would be dispatching to him. He said no problem. Bottom line is I got the LG I wanted for $125 (after the $100 credit Dell gave me) and Dell paid the tech to install it!
I bought it on ebay from seller: laptopservicecenter
http://cgi.ebay.com/A-NEW-LP154WE2-TL-B2-15-4-WSXGA-LCD-EXACT-PN_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQitemZ160212896681
I PM'd another person on this thread that said they'd found it for $225 and this is who they purchased one from. I found the exact part # which is LP154WE2 (TL) (B2) from this thread also. I think it was poster allshookup or sonicwind that posted a picture of the part number from the LG he received from Dell. When I received the screen the sticker on it said XK309 as well as the above listed part #.
EDIT: I just checked the ebay link and the price of the panel is now $255, not the $225 I paid for it. -

Awesome info guys thanks a lot. I might just end up buying from that ebay link just like you Chiwawa. I am waiting for the onsite tech guy to call me Tuesday. I am going to ask him what part he has for me. Regardless I am going to get him to replace the screen so I can see it being done. Then if it's no better I am either hunting down an Inspiron locally with a good screen or just ordering from ebay.
Thanks again, that Grainy Screen thread is SO long now I was not looking forward to reading through it all.
Edit: Those links to the manuals seem to be dead Mugsy. Are they just the regular manuals you get with each unit?
Edit 2: NP I found the service manual here: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xpsM1530/en/index.htm -

Another question:
Does it matter what resolution the screen is? I would be happy with either 1440x900 or 1680x1050. I see some Inspiron 1520s for sale but they are mostly 1440x900. If any of them have a good panel I'd snatch one up, make the switch and sell it off.
Inspiron screen fit & work in a M1530?
