Basically im going to university at the end of the next school year, i am planning on getting a HD ready television which i can also use as an external monitor with my laptop. The tele has VGA, DVI + HDMI sockets but obviously my laptop only has a vga socket. Now i know that VGA is the older of the three types of connector, but i was unsure as to wether a VGA cable would be able to output at a 1680 x 1050 resolution.
Also would i be able to use a DVI cable from the monitor to my laptop and then have a DVI > VGA connector on the other end to my laptop?
I have had no difficulties running my laptop to my 32" hd tele in my lounge at 1368 x 768 but i dont know wether it would work on this resolution.
Thanks in advance.

The 1520 has a 7pin S-Video, that allows you to hook up a s-to-component adapter sold by Dell. With the adapter you should be able to output up to 1080p.
With the VGA, I think the max resolution you can output is 640x480, so the school's TV may be zooming in the image to make it look like 1368x768.
Here is the adapter:

Regular VGA will drive to 1680 x 1050 no problems. my 2 year old Inps630m was doing this with a Dell 22 incher...
Inspiron to External Monitor maximum VGA output?
