    Hi folks.

I'm considering a Dell laptop as a replacement for a home desktop. Dell doesn't do a very good job on their web site (IMO) of differentiating between the two lines.

I don't need a super-powerful CPU or powerful graphics (the machine won't be used for gaming). What I want is a solid, capable machine (ie. Core 2 Duo or higher), with a large-ish screen (either 1600x900 on 15" or 1920x1080 on 17") at a reasonable price.

Which line of laptops fits the bill? Thanks!

Inspiron is the entry level, where as the Studio line is the mid line. These would be followed by Studio XPS and then Alienware.

For what you are looking for, either one would fit the bill. I would probably keep an eye out for a deal on an Inspiron. Sites like Cheap Stingy Bargains usually have any available coupons.

You probably don't need anything more than Intel graphics, so that is one way to keep the cost down.

My suggestion would be to get the fastest processor that you can. Don't worry about memory or hard drive as those are simple to upgrade later if necessary.
