    Alright, my company has an employee discount program, up to 12% off all dells. So, I decided to check out Dell first before any other brands to take advantage of the discount. I'm looking for a gaming lappy.

    Now the price difference between XPS and Inspiron is pretty huge. What the heck is the difference between these 2 systems I built the EXACT same way?

    Both have 17.1' screens with true life.
    Both have media direct.
    Both have 2.0 dual core 4mb L2 cache with a 667mhz FSB
    Both have an 80 gig 7200 rpm HD
    Both have 256MB Geforce 7900GS cards
    Both have a soundblaster audio card.
    Both come with carrying cases, deluxe pack programs for my mp3's, and Xfer cables so I can move junk from my desktop to lappy.

    Oh yeah, I went to Sager, I built it exactly the same specs as my dells,its also 17', but the Sager laptop is a 100gig 7200rpm hd (no 80 gig to choose), and the 512MB 7950GTX DDR3 graphics card (no other option to choose). It has no media direct access I think though. (No big deal). It also has a 1 year parts/labor warantee, with a 3 year option significantly cheaper from dells if I chose.

    XPS = $2,602.36
    Sager = $2,185.41
    Inspiron = $1,880.30

    prices are before tax.

    Can someone try to convince me to get the Inspiron or XPS over the Sager, which has 20gigs more hd space and a much better video card, and the best bang for the buck? Am I missing something? Even with my company discount, and the huge price slashes on all inspirons, the inspiron STILL looks overpriced for its parts compared to the Sager, and as for the XPS, well, I have no idea why its $500 more than the inspiron which is identical? Is the pretty case and the flashing light on the side of the XPS worth 500 beans? And the Inspiron looks like crap. The XPS does look alot better than the Sager though, but the Sager looks pretty good anyway. What gives?

    Pardon my language, but HOLY CRAP dude.. $722 dollars more for the XPS's chassis? Isnt that alittle extreme? There HAS to be something different..

    There is, sort of.

    Chasis is better, yes. Also you get the XPS support team (better? who knows, I've used them maybe once) a lighted case, better looking lid.

    In all honesty though, I got an XPS because there was no 12" Inspiron, but since there is a 17" inspiron I'd probably get that.

    You're still getting more value for your money from the Sager.

    As you noticed, the Sager has a much better GPU than the Dells, and a better HD.

    Plus it just flat-out looks better (well, unless you like the flashing lights on the XPS...I'm sure you can get Sager or whatever retailer is selling that to custom-paint your laptop for a lot less than $722...almost as good :p)..

    I'm assuming you're looking at the Sager 5760? That model (or any other systems built on the Clevo M570U) was simply the best non-SLI gaming notebook still running a mobile processor pre-SR period.

    I'm a fan of sager too. I'm pretty sure my next laptop is going to come from sager. They also have gigabit ethernet on their boards, which the inspiron doesn't have, but the xps does. I was lulled to dell by the discounts, but the sagers I have seen suit my needs as a gamer much better. It costs slightly more, but you get your moneys worth. Sager ftw!

    is that with a Dell coupon too. i got my Inspiron 1501 for $1350, would have been $1650 without a Dell coupon.
