Hi all, i recently bought a 1520 (specs in sig) and i have just began to experience my first problems with the machine.

When i close the laptop and it goes into sleep mode the laptop will sometimes not wake back up no matter what i do. and i will be forced to restart the computer manually using the power button.

this is really annoying and has caused me to lose work in the past.

has anyone had a similar problem?
does anyone have any plausible solutions?

    thanks

Nothing of the kind on my 1500 with XP. Have you tried putting it to sleep through the normal method? (not by closing the lid)

It's a graphics driver issue. Try a different driver, specially if you're using modded Forceware drivers. Had the same issue on my D830.

this problem is due to vista. It will be solved with service pack 1 for vista when it will be released.

I also believe it is a graphics driver issue and I get it occasionally...

The safest thing to do is enable Hybrid Sleep and then you shouldn't loose any work (as when you have to do a power down restart it will just do a hibernation resume instead of a sleep restore)...

uh i dont think it has anything to do with graphics... i have the same issue going on with my HP dv6000, just started recently.. i close the lid.. when i open it, it wont start.. nothing.. not even a hard drive spin..

i think its a vista issue for sure..

Well....not 100% sure its a Vista Issue as the same happens to me with XP on my Inspiron 6000 (granted...older computer but same problem and on XP). I'll try updating the video drivers and see if that does anything.

Its more than a graphics issue because I have the same problem with integrated graphics. I know there was problem with waking from sleep when you click a usb mouse while its going into that state, but I don't know how widespread it is.

I found a hotfix rollup through the microsoft site for sleep issues when using Intel GMA graphics, but it "does not apply" to my system when I run it. I did request a hotfix through Microsoft regarding the mouse issue and sleep worked this morning, but I'll know for sure when I get home from work.

I hope SP1 fixes it because powering down all the time doesn't really work for me.

I'm in the same boat, but this occurs even if I choose sleep from the start menu-I'd say that on my computer there is a 50% chance of it "sort of, kind of" going to sleep, and not waking again. Very frustrating.

I went home and my laptop woke up. I put it to sleep using my usb mouse before I went to sleep and it woke up fine this morning.

Looks like things are OK, but I've also heard the issue occurs here and there so I'll keep playing with it.

I reloaded pc, updated drivers, updated bios, checked power settings, critical updates -- then formatted hard drive and reloaded from scratch. Same results.... the NVidia 7900 gs Video card was replaced and everything is working fine.

Having the same issue. Thanks for the helpful reply. Should've thought of that. Giving it a try.
