my windows vista crashed the other day on my laptop and when i restarted it stays at a black screen after bios/vistagui. tried running all safe modes and it gets stuck at crcdisk.sys. tried last known working config and it stays black.

stick in vista boot disk to try and repair and it says that it cant repair it automatically (Repair action: System files integrity check and repair. Result: Failed. Error code = 0x2.)

so i went and bought an external enclsoure for the hd and backed up all my files onto my desktop.

is there a way that I can repair my windows vista install when i have the laptops hd loaded up on other comp?

i installed windows 7 on the laptop and it installed fine and loaded up windows. i have access to windows.old and all my files etc....i DONT want to start again with a clean install so I am going to revert back to my vista install in hopes that someone here knows a way to fix it. please just tell me what to do to get my vista to startup again.

It is possible you motherboard needs to be replaced. Perhaps you GPU has failed.

One thing I do at least once a year is backup important files and do a slow format of whole hard drive with 1's and 0's.
Then reinstall the OS and my backups.
What a sweet, fast clean laptop I have every time!!!!

Forgive me for asking, but why don't you just upgrade your Vista to Win7?

Win7 is what Vista was supposed to be. It is worth the upgrade as you probably know.

right now im running win 7 on the computer. graphics card drivers worked and everything is fine with that. no problems with the harddrive either. only reason i wanted to keep this laptop with my old vista install is because i had everything all setup and organized with the programs and stuff i needed to use for school.

i have an M15x coming within the next week or so, so this laptop will be history then. just sucks it died while im waiting for it instead of after it arrived.

Both you and I are waiting on our new laptops.
Good luck with yours and school!!!

It will be nice for me with 8GB 1333mhz SDRAM and 1GB Video.

No problem playing most games and be able to do all the multi-tasking you want!!!
