    Hi!

I got my Inspiron 1720 about 2 months ago. It came with DVD ROM TSST Corp TS-L632D. It did not work. So after many tries of making it work, I asked for a replacement. They sent me the same. Ok, not problems, but this one does not read/write any ****. While I was searching for solutions all this time, this drive's name was on the top of the ****-list, not surprise. Now, I asked for some other drive, and the tech guy said ok, and that he'll send me a Sony one. I'm happy and all, until after some time when he calls me and says "Inspirons can only take the drive that I got, and others have different interface". Clearly, as a software engineer, I knew he was full of ****, and said that it is not true, and there have been Inspirons with Sonys and Liteons. He said if I could give him the part number of these drives, he'd send me one.

So can any one of you, who do not have this retarded TSSTCorp's drive, post your DVD+/-RW's part numbers here?

I've seen someone post Liteon's part number here, but I can't find it with search not working and all not helping as well.

    Thank you!

Hello, total newbie when it comes to computers especially laptops, my reason for reading everthing I can on these boards. Just received my Insprion 1721 and my DVD +/- RW is listed as a Pioneer on the packing slip. Would the item number be the same as the part number? If so I would be willing to give you that.

Here you go DVD +/-RW, Pioneer Item# JY041. If this isn't the correct info I will go to device manager and see if that yields any additional information.

That is the information I needed, thanks a lot!

Has this drive given you failures or such? Does it read media properly? And write? Are noise et al under control? I'm asking because the last thing I want is another drive which is worse than mine (though I don't think there's another drive worse than TSSTCorp's).

Thank you once again, and I've repped you!

Good luck with your LG drive, so far I have not had any problems with my drive and hope it stays that way.
