    Hi.

I am going to buy a new laptop, and I am flying around a bit more. But not that much, mostly work.

I have only ever used a 15.4" widescreen notebook in business, what about economy? Will it fight on the tray?

I think it should be okay, but i dont want it too tight!

Has anyone travelling in economy with the Inspiron 1525? Was it okay? Or am I better getting a 14.1"? Dell don't sell the 1420 over here, in the UK. Will it ever come?

    Thank you.

    Nick

IMO, 14.1" is about the biggest you would want to go and still be portable. On a recent 4 hour flight (in which I sat in economy), I saw a number of laptops. The serious business folks seemed to use nothing larger than 14.1" with most using 12.1". I have a 12.1" D420 and it was perfect given the cramped space. YMMV.

Thanks, that's what I thought, but a 1525 could still be used on the tray?

I'm using an Inspiron 1520 and last time when I was flying in economy I better use my laptop on my knees not on the tray, because it was little uncomfortable, there was no place enough in front of me and I couldn't open the laptop so much to see enough on display. So I think that it will be similar with 1525 which is also 15,4" and has almost the same dimensions as the 1520.

A 15.4" notebook in economy IMHO is too big. I wouldn't get anything more than a 14". If it was me I would actually be looking at some nice 13.3" powerhouses you can get now. Not only are they lighter but way easier to deal with in the cramped quarters of flying economy.

I fly Ryanair, and they don't do a first class service!!! They are a brilliant low-cost airline! So the tray might not be as big as one on a first-class seat.

Yeah a 15.4 seems to big, I don't think it would do me well.

The only difference between the 1520 and the 1525 is the weight, and the 1525 is thinner.

There is not much consumer 14.1" laptops around, a few but not any good stuff. Seems the home users only need a 15.4" 17" and a 13.3".

Shame, I do like the 1525.

There is a 14" Inspiron in Canada, not sure where you are? If you are really traveling a lot I doubt you'll regret a 13.3" notebook like the ones I mentioned. They are all powerful machines, good quality and nice screens. That LG doesn't have an optical drive in it so just take that into consideration. Only weighs 3.6 lbs though O.O

Do you have the Vostro line of notebooks? The Vostro 1400 is the same as the Inspiron 1420.

Do I have to have business or something as that Vostro 1400 is not listed in the Home section?

    I am in the UK.

I may go for the XPS M1330, or find a 14.1"

    Thanks

In Canada Vostros are under business. They are kinda clunkier than the Inspirons and definitely not as slick as an XPS. But you can really load em up with the goods where it counts for a good price ;)

You don't have to have a business to get one, just pick a name you'll remember when the configurator asks for a "Business Name"
