I just received my Inspiron 9300 yesterday. I love it! The screen is not nearly as terrible as everyone makes it out to be...or at least I dont think so but then again Ive never had a laptop to compare. Ive notice an obnoxious clicking noise coming from the front right of the base of the laptop. It sounds as if the computer is starting to "think" but then stops, creating the clicking noise. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so whether I can expect it to go away or if theres anything I can do to fix it. If no one has had this problem should I be sending my system back? Let me know. Thanks for your help.

    I got my 9300 today!

I believe the clicking noise is the hard drive. The harder it "thinks", the more it clicks. I kind of like the sound, actually.[ :D]

I am clueless when it comes to DELL. But I think your prob is the HDD. Did you get the 7200RPM option. If yes then that's how the hitachi 7200RPM sounds. It's normal. Not that there are any other 7200RPM HDD manufacturers at the moment, so you gotta live with it!

By the way, I have already had a system hang with some kind of Disk soft error - whatever that means. All I know is that I got a blue screen, and the system spent about 3 minutes rebooting. I have also noticed that the navigation pad seems seems to hang from time to time.
Does anybody have any idea what that disk clicking sound is in the 7200 drive. Normal seek activity does not seem to cause clicking

Also, does anyone know why you cant get full screen DVD playback even when using a 185 (9X16) aspect ratio movie. I have the 900 X 1400 display.

my harddrive in my 700m was clicking so after about 2 weeks of talking with dell they sent me a new on. I had a western digital and they gave me a fujisu. It now long clicks at all now and it is actually faster now that it no longer clicks. the install of the new harddrive was easy , just remember to erase the old harddrive before removing it. many people have problems with the clicking of the harddrives and they seems to replace them

I haven't heard any clicking noises on mine. I would suggest contacting Dell and see if you can get a replacement HDD. It can't hurt to contact them since you are still covered under warranty.

The return policy is that you have 21 from invoice date to return it if you aren't totally satisfied (get full refund minus shipping/handling). You can check Dell's site and it has forms and directions for returning.

Mine is very quiet and I have the faster 7200rpm drive. Not sure which one it is but I can not hear it at all.

You should prob. talk to Dell about it if it is that load.

    good luck.

since i upgraded from 512mb to 1gb, the drive is no longer accessed every other second (the hdd access led no longer blinks) and hence no clicking [ :D]
i think the noise is produced whenever the head moves out of place or is parked back in place. so on and off access tends to produce clicking. that's what i noticed!
