I recently bought Dell a 6000 Inspiron Notebook, 15.4 in. WUXGA, Win Xp Media center edition and i removed and did a fresh install of Windows XP Pro and now facing a blurry font problem.

I liked the fonts the way there were when i got my Laptop. It is just after i did fresh install of Window XP Pro, am having a Blurry font problem.

Please advise if there is a cure or how do i restore to the previous state/orginal settings Thanks

    things to check:

    1. cleartype = on
    2. dpi = 96
    3. resolution = 1920x1200

Thanks for the reply guys, i did both of your suggestion, but little bit improvements, but font is too small. Do you know of any method where i can restore my oringial settings. I kind of really liked the font and picture quality. I was not know, the fresh install will mess up things.

If you haven't reinstalled all the drivers then maybe it is because you need to install the ATI drivers and control panel? Certianly I had blurry dodgy resolution until I installed my ATI drivers.

the factory setting is dpi = 120. 96 is what it's supposed to be.

The screen has a hardware ppi/dpi of 147. There is no "supposed to" software ppi/dpi setting in xp, but in a properly HD-compliant OS it would also be 147. Meanwhile we make compromizes. Dell usually sets it at 120, which I use too. It's a good idea to experiment with various ppi's until you find the preferred one. 96 is the default for the OS and for many programs because they were designed for 96 ppi/dpi screens. If they haven't also been designed for higher ppi/dpi screens, then staying with 96 is safe, but many will also find the fonts etc too small. HD-compliant programs can be run at 120 or more ppi perfectly. Windows Vista is said to be HD-compliant as well, so things will get better for WUXGA-users. The OS ppi is only the start. Each program has its own settings. Firefox, for example, has a ppi variation setting, and it looks beautiful at the hardware ppi of 147, plus bigger fonts. IE has real problems with HD screens, and whatever settings you use there are compromizes.

if you don't want weird spacing issues on some websites, you run at 96. 120, 147 and anything that isn't 96 means you may run into some oddball issues.
