Note: if you saw my earlier thread about SATA drivers, disregard it plz. ;)

Anyone tried XP on their 1520 yet? I hope the drivers that come on the support discs are compatible with XP, and not just Vista.

Does the hard drive work right off the bat? How about ethernet/wifi?

    Thanks.

The support discs are all Vista drivers...I'm afraid that you have toi download some XP drivers by yourself. I hope you can read some Chinese, or at least guess what the driver is.

Someone uploaded XP drivers for 1420, 1520 and 1720 in the Dell CN support forum.

And please note, as XP cannot fully support the technology used in its Samsung hard driver, so there must be a question mark in your hardwere list as no driver avaliable...but people said that it doesn't matter and will not hurt you laptop.

You can download many drivers for XP from support.dell.com but not all of them (at least yet)

The vostro line has the same hardware as the new inspirons, so check the drivers available for the xp versions of the vostros.

^OK thanks, I'll try Vostro 1500 drivers and maybe have someone help me figure out the Chinese on that site.

I was wondering if it had been done before, since reinstalling XP seemed very popular at least on the HP forum here, a member went to the trouble of making a detailed guide with screencaps and links.

EDIT: just checked the DELL site--seems like they uploaded a bunch of stuff recently (including today) for the 1520's and Vostro 1500's. I found an Intel Matrix Storage driver (SATA HDD), but I don't know if XPSP2 has built-in support for it or if it needs to be slipstreamed on a Windows disc?

    Thx.
