    Is this possible?
The specs are quite close to MBP's except a lower clock on the cpu and maybe alittle different networking card specs.

    I got
    T7300
    2gb ram
    8600GT
    160gb 5400rpm
    Broadcom 440 networkingcard
    Intel wireless

Will it work without major problems?

I'm told OSx86 on a Vostro 1400 is possible, but not desirable. It would be a hassle to install and get working and for many things the kexts simply do not exist. Your graphics card would not work along with other things. I'll refer you to Insanely Mac forum, you should ask the question there. They are the most popular OSx86 forum.

I think it's illegal to install a Mac OS on anything other than a Mac?

I think it's a topic we rather not discuss here since it's against the EULA.

I thought it was one of those, ok to discuss things as long as you don't mention where to get any files or such.

correct, it is not illegal to speak of the mere possibility of such a thing, but it is to discuss where to get it, and how to specifically do it. that being said, it should be possible.

OSx86 has advanced sufficiently since the original post to allow OS X to function properly. I have Leopard 10.5.1 working quite nicely on my Inspiron 1420.

You may find these of use:

Running Mac OS X on non-Apple hardware is a violation of the OS X EULA and therefore discussion of it is not allowed here on NBR. If you want to run Mac OS X, buy a Mac. Thanks, and thread closed.
