Hello,
I got a new Dell Inspiron 1520 Notebool last month. With it I got Windows Vista.
I tried to install Win2003 or XP on it but i'm unable to install either of those.
When I try to install 2003, I run the command winnt (or winnt32.. i dnt remember), then the setup starts loading some drivers and after a few minutes, setup just exits saying the disk is damaged. This is not true since I had previously been able to install Vista on it.
If I try to install XP, after the driver loading the setup crashes and I get the blue-screen-of-death and I'm unable to understand the issue there.
U must know that before doin all this, I've already changed two settings in BIOS. 1) turned off flash/caching whatever that option was and also did the ATA to AHCI change (to whatever the correct thing was.. srry dnt remember since im away from my lappy rt now).
Another thing to note is that I am able to install both 2003 and XP on my other desktop without any issues.
What can be the issue? Do I need to interrupt the driver loading to load drivers for SATA? If yes, how do I do that? Should I use the driver CD provided with my laptop?
Please help, I've been trying to install this for more than a week now.

Make sure you go into setup to make sure you're booting from the CD drive. I believe you hit F12 while the Dell splash comes up. It sounds like your laptop is still booting from the hard drive, and because you have AHCI enabled its throwing a BSOD.
Also, make sure your XP disc has SATA drivers on it or you won't be able to install XP with SATA enabled.
