I have Windows XP Pro CD that came with my Dell Dimension 4600 desktop computer. I if remove this from first computer, will I run into registration issues if I try to install this on a second computer, i.e. Vostro 1700?

Yes, because if ever that cd came w/ your other system and you have registered that to microsoft so basically you cant use that in your second system because when you register that it will say there that this OS is registered to another system.

And besides it against the law to use another software that is used by another system.

It doesn't matter if it it is a Dell OEM XP disc, because it doesn't need activation if installed on a Dell machine.

You can run it on both machines just fine. In fact, I have a Dell XP Pro disc that has been installed on 4 different Dell pc's.... :)

But he said he was going to remove it from the 1st computer, so he would still be using 1 copy on 1 computer.

Yeah, but I think the license for a Dell OEM disk is bound to a certain computer... untransferable, so even though it is possible to install elsewhere, it's illegal?

EDIT: Or rather, you can use one OEM disk to reinstall the same OS on another machine that originally came with the same OS, just not one that did not come with the same OS. Like upgrading a Dell laptop with Win98.

Nice advice on the 1st place, microsoft has there own way of tracking those people who are using their software through illegal means.... I bet you dont want to pay for the charge on this...
