    Hello all,

I recently purchased an Inspiron 1318 from Best Buy and while I love it so far, trying to play a few games has been an awful experience. Vista is pretty much useless when it comes to older games, even some games that were released about a year ago. What I would like to do is to dual boot into an XP partition just for playing games. I think my biggest problem will be finding drivers for this notebook that will work on xp. Any ideas? Also, I've never made a dual boot system before, though I have done plenty of installs and reformats.

Hi, do you have any new with this ?

I just ordered a 1318 thinking of getting XP on it as soon as it arrived, but i read your post and rush'd to the dell site and noticed there are official XP drivers for it.. Did you make it work? will other inspiron's drivers work for it?

The Inspiron 13 comes with a integrated Intel X3100 video card, that's why you have trouble with games. Switching from Vista to XP won't really help anything.

There are no official drivers for Inspiron 13, u must have confused it with inspiron 1300, which appears to be the old model.

So, has anyone at least tried installing Xp on this machine? If yes, could you describe the problems you faced along with what drivers you could find and what could not.

try this for wireless, it should work. http://support.dell.com/support/dow...-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=236819

try this for bluetooth, even though i am less confident that it is gonna work, but give it a shot
    http://support.dell.com/support/dow...-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=216131

    And report back please...

Also, did u have any problems installing XP? I mean did u have to mess with SATA drivers or did it work fine by just using an ordinary XP-cd? Or did u just install it by disabling SATA support?

Also, it would be nice of you if you could upload all the drivers you have somewhere like maybe rapidshare and post the link here, so that anyone else who wants to install xp wouldn't have to search for drivers.

P.S. your system specs would be nice to have here too.

Hi i just got finished creating a dual boot system on a 1318 and all went well but one thing. When i loaded xp i had to change sata setting in the bios to ATA to get xp to load. Now after everything is completed i cant switch back to AHCI. If I do when xp loads it reboots itself. Im thinking i might have to reload xp this time left in AHCI mode and figure out how to get xp to see a hard drive. The f6 floppy method if i had a floppy. Anyone have any clues. I really dont want to reload xp if at all possible.

Unfortunately, you will have to reinstall XP if you want it to run in AHCI. And the only way you could do it is by slippstreaming SATA driver in your XP CD. Google slipstreaming to get more info on that.

    hey,
    I just received mine! finally!

got it running on that overbloated vista with no non-vista-problems so i decided to turn to the old xp ;P downloaded the drivers someone uploaded plus the bluetooth someone posted, everything works fine, batterylife is awesome, overall speed is perfect, i just love it

there is still one little detail bothering me.. the FN+F1 (moon) combination does not work, neither does the WIN+H for hybernate, i'll work on it a bit.

besides that it's greatness on laptop.

You put in your XP disk, restart, boot from disk, and install. Just follow the on-screen instructions, they're pretty self-explanatory.

Yeah dude, it happens with each laptop with Vista. You have to go into your bios and I believe you have to disable AHCI or something like that.

When u start your computer press F12 and shoose Bios settings from the menu. When you are in BIOS go to somewhere like hardware components and choose hard drive. In the hard drive options you can choose between ATA and AHCI. Choose ATA instead of AHCI.

Read this tutorial on dell xps m1330. It is very similiar to inspiron 13, and it might help you to understand what to do what installing xp:

For those who might be having Dell wireless 1395 driver issues:
    1) download the correct driver http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=236819 (thanks Iceman).
    2) after extra the zip file, goto the folder and delete Dellinfo.exe and Dellinfo64.exe
    3) Wham... It'll install.

Anyone have the correct audio driver for Inspiron 13? I've googled for two days with no luck. IDT bought SigmaTel but I think I need IDT High Definition audio driver.

Also, anyone figure out the Base System device problem? I got three of them under other drivers.

    thanks for your help

sorry to bring an old thread back to life, but this was very helpful for my wife's new 1318.
XP bluetooth driver can be found here (confirmed working)
    http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R127314.EXE

This was the post i used, just add my BT link (if needed)
For some reason, rapidshare was really failing as a free user (took over 2 hours with odd download speed changes) but worth it if you want XP (and you DO!)
