Get rid of media direct. You do not need it. All you need to do is supply the sata driver during the xp installation and you will be fine.

What does supply the Sata driver mean?
So i dont need media direct at all?
Everything will work fine without it? even the volume up and down buttons on the bottom of my laptop

The only thing that won't work without Media Direct is the Media Direct button. However, you can set it to do other things like in this thread.

I don't think you understand what media direct is. Media direct can be accessed from within windows (by launching the program its similar to windows media center) or its main feature is when the computer is turned off, you can press the home button to launch it (without loading up windows). It essentially lets you listen to music, watch movies, or view pictures without having to boot windows up. Quite useless to me in my opinion.

Here is dell's link about media direct. http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/odg/media_direct_jump?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd

When you refer to the buttons for volume and play pause etc, those are controlled by other dell drivers/programs available from your diver cd or dells website.

As for installing windows xp, windows xp does not recognize the sata ports on these newer computers. So in order to get the installation to work (and not blue screen) you need to load the sata driver (from the dells website or your driver cd).

Your going to have to install all your drivers for each and every device. (part of the re installation process). Hit up dells site for the proper ones for your computer.

    check this image out. http://pctipguys.com/images/delldriver.png

I put a red circle next to the ones you "need" to get, and a yellow one next to ones that you may or may not need (depending on your configuration ie i don't know if you have bluetooth or which wireless card or if you have the web cam). But the red ones you should get them all.

I apologize for hosting the picture on my site...but i don't know of any other site that would allow a pic of that size up there.
