Looking to put dual boot XP/Vista on my new 1530, most of what I've read says the HD needs to be in ATA mode for the XP install as XP does not have SATA drivers. Dell has a SATA driver for the 1530 that also lists XP, so would this work during the XP install via F6 for additional drivers?

I'm planning to give it a try later today, I had trouble switching back to ACHI (SATA) mode after doing the XP install without it.

Yeah it should work but you will need the drivers on a floppy disk...
The other way to do it is to slipstream the SATA driver into the XP install disk... then you don't even need to hit F6 -

you have to use either a dell installation cd with the XP drivers slipstreamed or use the ATA mode (which i did and it worked fine). Or make a XP slipstream with SATA drivers on it.
Using F6 option WILL NOT work, as it looks for a floppy drive. YOu can get USB floppy drives, or use a USB drive method which i tried and did not work for me.
Are you formatting the recovery/direct media partitions off there? -
If you have a new Dell Win XP OEM installation CD within the last 6 months or so, it should have the SATA driver on it already.

I haven't heard of any XP discs having the driver included, unless it was slipstreamed with one and then burned to a disc.
Interesting. -

i went ATA mode installed XP, put sata drivers on in windows, then put it off ATA mode, works fine.
having it in ATA mode takes away performance & some hardware wont be recognized -
Thanks for the replies, but I'm unable to find a working XP SATA driver. I've tried a couple with no luck. Anyone have a link?
Thanks. -
