I hear good things from this Audigy HD software for the Dell laptops. I didn't order it when I bought my dell, but does Dell sell this software standalone somewhere? Or even a better question, is there some other software that has the same capabilities? Freeware maybe?

    Thanks

    i don't think it's worth it.
you could get a cheap usb sound card for not too much.
they don't sell it seperately either.
you can use audio plugins for things like winamp like DFX.
    they work ok

I do think its worth it, theres is a noticable difference with the internal speakers, and a huge difference with quality headphones or external speakers, if I used my notebook like a desktop I might consider getting a usb unit over the software, but I dont, I use it all over the place, and when I'm home, I use my desktop, I'm sure you could order the upgrade, just give dell a call, I think I remember some older posts of people downloading it, then buying an activation code

The software is a ripoff - Dell wants you to believe it is hardware (hence the term "integrated") but in fact it is only a software package. It's not worth spending money on.

It also adds a lot of processes/services to your system, and has compatability issues with some games.

Ah, this DFX software looks very interesting. I tried it out and it does make the music sound clearer, even on my PC. Anywho, thanks for the update. And yes "free" is always good.

Yeah - the SB upgrade is not at all worth it. Spend 70$ and get a PCMCIA Soundblaster Audigy 2ZS. THAT is worth it.

Everything Chaz just said was what I was basically going to say. All it does is add a ton of processes/services to your system with nominal gane. There is nothing hardware about it.

I got the SB Audigy upgrade and it's worth it.
It's a small chip inside the notebook and powered by Creative's EAX software. Basically, it emulates the Audigy effects.

I don't think it'll work if you just download the software, since there's an actual SB chip inside the notebook and b4 u install, it checks for it.
The software didn't work on my desktop.

Overall, I think it's nice. It's pretty good and music sounds realistic.

There is no chip inside your notebook for the Audigy feature. Sorry. You were either lied to or misunderstood. In fact, Dell has since changed their description to make sure you understand it is software only.

So, long story short, you have no chip in your Dell.

@HollywoodRoad - I though that the ExpressCard slot is backward compatable with PCMCIA & Cardbus...???

I havnt had any issues with games or it taking up to many resources.. but aside from the pretty volume UI, I think its oh hum as well. How ever unless the default driver also gives you an equilizer, it might be worth it. I dont know if I would seek out buying it if I didnt originaly order it in the first place.

i dont think the expresscard slot is backwards compatible, i was looking into this last night and was very disappointed... i was gonna grab an audigy pcmcia with 7.1 speakers for this E1505 too :(

about the software edition, i got it and i doubt i will bother loading it again; you have to register it when you install it from scratch which sux... dont lose your CD key or you will be screwed and i think that is BS for drivers!

i am really thinking hard on returning my E1505 for a M1210, at least that comes with 5.1 audio, correct?

you carry around 5.1 speakers with you? If you were looking for a desktop replacement, the 1505 isnt it. ^^

Oh my gosh. ExpressCard is 100% not backwards compatible. I just looked at the ExpressCard website, and there is basically nothing worth buying an express card for. This slot is completely useless! Totally bumbed out now, I was just about to buy a soundcard too. :(

Terrible new! I thought the Audigy 2ZS would pop right into new notebooks sporting the ExpressCard slot.

To m1210 owners - has anyone used the Soundblaster Audugy 2ZS Notebook in their ExpressCard slot??

It is a shame that just about all of the new notebooks have a single ExpressCard slot and no legacy PCMCIA slot - there is virtualy nothing supporting ExpressCard save for a TV tuner and a few other minor things.
PCMCIA cards will not work in an ExpressCard slot.
