I have the D620 with the integrated Smartcard Reader and I was wondering what do I need to activate it?
Do I need to buy the card from Dell which I tried to do a search and it came up with just a bunch of computers and keyboards that have the built in readers or can I buy one from my local computer store and access the features?
And What kind of Media is it? Its too wide to be a Secure Digital but could be wide enough for a Smart Media...

I take my notebook on trips most of the time and they sometimes are left in hotel room or trunk of car when I am not using it and would like the added security.

FYI mine did not come with any media in the slot when I purchased the notebook.

    Thanks

That Dell link is worthless. The limit of instruction is how to stick a card into a slot. Nowhere is it explained how to register a card, where to obtain a card, HOW TO ACTUALLY MAKE PRACTICAL USE OF THE CARD!

You can check this link for some smart card basics:

    http://www.howstuffworks.com/framed.htm?parent=question332.htm&url=http://www.smartcardbasics.com/

I am writing a smart card reader set-up procedure and will post them when done.

Basically setup works on a domain system with the following requirements:
    1. Windows 2003 Server configured as a domain controller.
    2. Certificates Services installed.
    3. Internet Information Services installed

so, in order to use smart card system on a laptop it must be a member of a domain system that will authenticate the smart card log-on.
