I have this wireless in my dell but im not getting a strong signal. Seems very shakey. It connects sometimes and it disconnects the other times. Is there anyway I can improve the signal? The notebook is right beside the router.

How many signal bars do you get? I had a similar problem with my ASUS Z96J. Right next to the wireless router, I'd get 2 bars. Five feet away, one bar. More than about seven feet, nothing.

Turned out the antenna wasn't hooked up to the 3945 card. It was easy enough on the Z96J to open it up and attach it.

If you are getting a significant number of bars, though, then this isn't your problem. Try updating your drivers to Intel's latest. Also, make sure you do your tests while plugged in to AC.

Check what channel your router is set to for the wireless. I've found that some Dell wireless cards don't work well on channel 6, the default on the Linksys routers. Works much better if you switch it to channel 1 or 11.

Access your router's IP address using IE/Firefox. A box should appear in the center of the screen asking for your User Name and Password.

The Linksys Wireless Router Setup page should appear.

Click on the Wireless tab. Change the Wireless Channel (the default is 6) to 1-11. Most people use Channel 6 so you don’t want to be on that channel. It is better to use different channel to avoid interference. Click on Save Settings.

Channels 1, 6, and 11 are the only non-overlapping channels. You should almost certainly pick one of those three.

Also what is managing your card? From what I hear the Intel software is pretty bad. I let Windows manage it right now. I have had no drops whatsoever. Mine's an E1705, but it has the same card. I have a good router too, so that could contribute to the no drops factor. (Belkin N1)
