I am having a problem with my new M1530 with the Intel 4965 wireless card connecting to the internet through my 802.11g router . It can see the network and says its connected locally and to the internet but when I open IE it doesn't connect. Then it connects but then seems lose the connection and reconnects and lets me surf again then i lose it again?

If i have it set to G mode only or Auto it seems i only get 5.5mb it just seems to keep losing connection? Speeds goes from 54mbps down to 5.5 or even 2?

Pulling my hair out here as i can't seem to work out whats going on

I remember a problem like this, think it is the same one I've had:

Check in your router to see if you get any messages about "Received deauthentication" ( http://www.google.com/search?hl=env&q=Received+deauthentication), if so, your router and the WLAN card doesn't work that well together.

First thing you could try is to remove any sercurity on the network (no WEP/WPA), to see if that helps.

If that doesn't work you should check your WLAN card properties and disable power savings.

If none of these work: upgrade or downgrade the WLAN drivers. You may be able to find a driver that works.

And if that doesn't work: Upgrade/downgrade the firmware in the router. Some firmwares doesn't work with the Intel card. I've downgraded one of my routers and I don't have the problem anymore. On another router I had to upgrade the firmware.

And if all above fail: Get another router that works better with your WLAN card.

right i have a Netgear DG834G 54Mbps Wireless router and i'm running XP Pro.

I was suggested to install the older drivers (not available on dell support).

    http://www.station-drivers.com/page/intel lan-wan.htm 11.1.1.16

I've installed that drive that i've posted and things seem better though i'm still getting radom cut offs but it seems to reconnect right away.

I have Wap working on it now and i did try it as unsecured for a while but still had the same issue.

Having similar issues with both Linksys WRT600 and Trendnet 633 - starts out nice and connects but drops speed soon there after.
