You peeps think that CPU conversion calculator website is correct (nearly a 2x multiplier); it calculates a 1.73 PM-CM as a 3.425 ?
I had previously seen conversions closer to 1.5x; i.e. 1.73 would be ~2.6 ?
Ex, Can a Dell Inspiron 9300 with a 1.73 processor play HD movies @ 1080p or only 720p?

Thanks,

the cpu multiplier isn't related to LCD resolution or the original encoded resolution of a movie file. it's two separate things.
-
I'm well aware of that but HD playback @ 720p & 1080p list different CPU system requirements hence my question.

From aforementioned link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/content_provider/film/ContentShowcase.aspx
Minimum Configuration
(to play 720p video)
Windows XP
Windows Media Player 9 Series
2.4 GHz processor - or equivalent -
384 MB of RAM
64 MB video card
1024 x 768 screen resolution
16-bit sound card
Speakers
Optimum Configuration
(to play 1080p video with 5.1 surround sound)
Windows XP
Windows Media Player 10
DirectX 9.0
3.0 GHz processor - or equivalent -
512 MB of RAM
128 MB video card
1920 x 1440 screen resolution
24-bit 96 kHz multichannel sound card
5.1 surround sound speaker system -
i think i don't understand your question then. can you specify the two different requirements? i must have missed them on the links.
edit: haha, ok... you posted right before i posted this.
i saw that and it's worded kind of weird. it lists the minimum requirements for 720, but not the optimal and then the optimal for 1080, but not the minimal.
are you outputing to a LCD/TV or just running on your notebook?
in any case, i think you'll be just fine with the cpu you have. -
Right above ya
i.e. Minimum Configuration
(to play 720p video) - 2.4 GHz processor - or equivalent -
Optimum Configuration
(to play 1080p video) - 3.0 GHz processor - or equivalent - -
Haven't ordered yet otherwise would try it
but was planning on ordering by 1/4 or 1/11. Would order WXGA+ (more practical for general use at this time I feel) for notebook playback & 1080p DVI out to external monitor capable of 1920x1200.

BTW, don't mean to come across as ungrateful, appreciate your feedback. It is indeed worded well let's say less than optimally
' but I'm expecting even a 1.73 centrino will play 1080p HD.
A nearly 2x multiplier as used on above link is larger than anything I've seen previously however but would be great if 1.73 centrino was equivalent to 3.425 GHz. -
yeah, converting 2d, even HD, although mainly a cpu intensive task, shouldn't be a problem for that cpu.
re: multipliers, i've heard everything from 1.5 to 2 although 2 sounds a little generous. there's plenty of other factors effecting the cpu performance besides the hard numbers; such as background tasks, etc.
