    Hi there

Is there much of a difference between the Intel Core 2 Duo T5470 1.6GHz and the Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 1.8GHz?

I would use the laptop for general use like watching movies, internet etc with a small amount of gaming

    Thanks in advance

General purpose probably won't show a difference to you, honestly. Encoding video a LOT? CPU intensive games? Sure, maybe a bit, but I wouldn't pay more for what it seems like you're going to do with it.

What's the difference in cost for you between the two?

$90 difference. Its $195 to go to the T7300, which would be the only upgrade to make sense, albeit at 33% of the original notebook cost.

It is complicated because of the different options. To upgrade it would be about £70 but it depends on the deal really

Option 1 is 1.8 Processor with 160 GB Hard Drive, 256 MB 8600M GT card for £564.07 or

Option 2 is 1.6 Processor with 120 GB Hard Drive, 128 MB 8400M GS for £517.07

    All other aspects the same

I know it is only £47 difference but the thing is I can really afford no more than £550 top line and I want to add Truelife and Bluetooth to this spec which will make it go even higher!

Well, the HDD you can always upgrade yourself later, the video card is overkill if you're not a gamer, and honestly I really doubt you'll notice the processor increase, especially depending on what you have now.

My bro recently upgraded his pentium 4 2.5ghz to a dual core athlon mobile 1.7ghz and he thinks it's screamingly fast.

And am I reading it correctly it costs 100 bucks to go from the 7100 to the 7300? Damn, it was only 50 for lenovo (and I jumped on that very quickly)

If you need virtualization to run other OS, then go for T7xxx. Otherwise, T5xxx is sufficient for most general use and some gaming.
