in this article " http://hothardware.com/viewarticle.aspx?articleid=932&cid=10" they talk about the new T7600G in the new M1710 notebooks. Its basically got an unlocked clock multiplier!!!!
question is, if you can even get a hold of one, use it in the E1705 notebooks?
any ideas?

I'm not sure if the multiplier is set from within the BIOS with the T7600G processor, but if it is, then you may require a BIOS update if you wish to alter the multiplier. Alternatively, you could install the processor in the E1705, and simply set the multiplier from within Windows.
You should make sure that you need the processor before purchasing it. If your main tasks don't include video editing, encoding or some other processor dependant task, then the ability to overclock the processor is pointless, as it won't help overall performance. The same is true in gaming - Increasing the processor speed will not increase overall graphical performance. -
Somebody go pirate the bios for the XPS so they can have a T7600G and 7900GSX in an E1705
(and then their laptop explodes 1 week later). -
The problem is those processors are not available in retail.
Except for a german store (it-premier.de) that sells them for €694. (!) -
i know, im just asking if the new CPU will physically fit into the E1705's mobo.
i understand i'd need a BIOS update for sure, and i realize for games its the graphics that bottlenecks perf.
i just simply wanted to know if it would fit.
and yah, im aware of the limited availibility.... -
nothing is better. -
Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
It really isnt all its cracked up to be, the chip is very high priced, already clocked very high(very little headroom left) its more of a high priced novelty item more than anything. From what I've read your stuck with software OC's.

I thought it was just a regular T7600 with the multiplier unlocked through the BIOS... So whatever that german store is selling must be fake. (166*X)

How did you conclude from this that the german store sells fakes? -
