Dell are now offering the option to choose the Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N. Wonder when this part will be available for sale individually...![]()

Is that the IPW4XXX (X = something or other #) ?
It was supposed to be released last month, if I remember. -
its the Intel 4695 Wireless card
-
I can't wait to hear a review from an actual user from this forum.... I'm drooling all over & can't wait for this wireless card (individually) to be made available for sale.
-
I'll work on it JJ
-
Hi Bal, let me know when you're able to bring in this new Intel wireless card!
-
I would like to know what are the major differences between this card and Dell 1500 Wireless-N card. I just ordered a e1505, and during the "build" process with the guy at the Dell kiosk, he and another Dell guy were completely wowed by the fact that the "next-gen" card was able to be added to my laptop order.
All I heard from them is that the next-gen card is the latest/greatest and that some people were waiting to order their laptops until this was available... uh okay so I added it to my build. I've read the press release about it but got lost in the explanations...
Also, will this card be compatible with DLinks new DIR855 router?
TIA, sorry for the long post (it's my first on this forum) -
If/when they sell these cards, I'll be able to slot it into my ExpressCard slot, right? Inspiron 6400 Vista Home Premium Core 2 Duo owner by the way.
-
No it does not go into the ExpressCard slot, it is an internal card. But it is not too hard to do. Basically remove the hinge cover and keyboard to do it. Here are the full instructions:

I believe the correct term for thist type of card is Mini-PCIe. -
Wow, is an N card so important that you'd put off buying a laptop until it's released considering how easy it is to swap out nics. Also, how many access points or hotspots actually support N?
-
for the guy who was asking about them being express card, they are mini PCI-e cards and are an internal component. they will fit any Laptop that uses an internal Mini PCI-e slot for thier wireless.
I currently use the dell 1500 and sell them as well and I have to say that the 1500 has been a great proformer. The only thing I can see about the intel card is that it may have some power saving features. but I am not sure of the chipset yet.
we will see. -
will this card work also with Windows XP? I don't see a driver on the Intel website for XP yet. Vista only.
-
can the current card be replaced by this one?
-
well I got them testing one now
-
will these cards only work in dells? or can i put it in my sony notebook?
-
On a side note for compatibility reasons, do these have 3 antenna connectors, or still just 2? -
I just ordered my Inspiron 6400 with the Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N card.
-
I'm a bit new to all this so please excuse my ignorance. But is there an internal wireless-n card available for Dell Latitudes D510 and D820 using XP?
Thanks -
If it's not in the customizing options, then likely not. Call in and ask to be sure.
Actually, if the first sales rep says no, call in later and get another sales rep and ask again to be sure. -
You can buy on for less than $40 and put it in yourself. But I am not at all sure what the big deal is.
-
i ordered intel 4965 from dell @25 but shipping costs 15.
