I'm planning on getting a Dell 8600 this week, was just wonder what card is better and what the diffrence is in them? I Know Intel's support Centrion I believe.
Also one off topic question, the 8600 screens are WXGA, WSXGA+ and WUXGA, and not just XGA, etc? Am I correct? I just want to know the right resolution.
Thanks.

My opinion go with the Intel wireless 2200 it's made to go with the Pentium M processor. One is from Intel and the other is from Dell. Both of them have the b/g standard. It can go up to 5 times faster depending on your internet connection. If you go with the intel be sure to upgrade your firmware on the router. I use the intel 2100b, and my connection is fast.
Yes, the 8600 screens are wxga, wsxga+, wuxga. W stands for wide screen. xga use for email, browsing and word processing. sxga display 87% more information, ideal for DVD playack, advanced digital imaging and various miltimedia applications. Uxga is Iltrasharp it offer 25% increase in viewing angle and 20% more brightness than a standard notebbok display. You can go to www.dell.com or www.pcmag.com

Hi Mz,
I would strongly advise to get the Dell Wireless 1350. To put it simply, it is about five times faster than the Intel Prowireless card as it supports b/g connectivity, whilst the Intel one supports only b (this is where I think you're wrong crazylazy...). The Centrino is only a badge that Intel allows manufacturers to use if the use the Pentium M processors, Intel chipset and Intel Prowireless card. By using the Dell 1350 card, you get better performance but lose the Centrino badge. Intel has given laptop manufacturers a financial incentive to use the Centrino logo, so that's why they usually bundle the Intel Prowireless card as standard instead of a b/g card.
As for the WUXGA screen. I have one on my 8600, and I absolutely love it!!! The text is smaller than on a standard screen, but it is much crisper, and I got used to it really fast. Other screens now look just too low res, dim and clunky in comparison. I could never go back to using a lower res screen even after using this thing for only 1.5 weeks! My advice, if you're eyesight is good, go with WUXGA screen. If not, go for the WSXGA+.

Actually the Intel wireless 2200 supports b/g, and according to the Dell website the 1350 and intel 2200 have the same range.
I guess the intel 2200 is more expensive because it has the centrino logo on it. -
I don't think it matters. I have the Dell 1350 and it works great... well after fighting with the drivers, but that's only because i reformatted my hard drive. I haven't tried the Intel to compare but I'm sure it's just as good.

The 1350 picks up the signal better then the 2200, I was at Hotspot with 8500 with 1350 and 8600 with the intel ,1350 picked up good while the intel camein low

Dell now offer the Dell Wireless 1370 against the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200, but what is the Dell card like on power consumption with an Intel processor and chipset compared to the Intel card running with the other Intel components (Centrino)?

Why did you bump a 2 year old thread? -
I was trying to be tidy. After searching and reading this one, my question seemed to fit in here rather than start another thread on the topic.
-
Pretty much the same answer then. Dell's wireless works, but Intel's seems to pick up a stronger signal and do better in terms of power management and consumption.

I would go with the intel.
Intel Pro/Wireless 2200 or Dell Wireless 1350?
