I want to upgrade the crappy HDD to a intel x-25. I was wondering if this was possible with inspiron 9400. Would i have to flash BIOS or any such thing or will it be a smooth transition or Is wont be possible.
Any advice would be helpful cheers.

hi, i have a similiar question with my Studio 1555. i want to put a kingston ssdnow V+ in it. all i need to do is to chug it in and it will work?

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Yes, and yes. An SSD will work anywhere that a standard HDD will work.

Nice choice on the Intel. Even the new V series are getting top marks all around!

I use an intel 32gb SLC x25-e in my Studio 1747 - but then I have a second 640gb drive for data/programs. Basically I just did a clean install. If going the x25-m or x25-v (mlc) route I'd recommend getting the latest gen (just released) as previous versions don't support trim (I think) and can slow down over time. It is a nice change - mine rates a 7.5 wei and pretty much maxes out sataII capabilities (AS SSD bench of 384). Silent, very fast, runs cool, and really extends battery life. For a large 2.5" mlc SSD drive the best right now is the Crucial RealSSD (it'll still work with SataII but is fast enough to utilize sataIII in my desktop), 256gb for $659 if you look hard - which is close to pricing of the lesser drives.

lol this thread is becoming a ssd comparison but how does the kingston v+ series do? it seems to be cheaper then the intel ones, but performance is same as crucial and intel (or so i have read). 128gb is enough for me, i dont store large amount of pictures or movies on my laptop.
btw, for those ssd without trim, heard u can restore their old performance by doing a secure erase, deleting all data on it. -
a bit of a thd revival but ...
how does the x-25 or the x-18 mount on the hard drive caddy that the e1705has ??
is the x-18 (1.8") for the x-25 (2.5") better (easier) to install on the del 9400 ? -

The X25-M will mount like a normal hard drive... the X18-M will need some sort of 1.8" to 2.5" adapter. There's honestly no point in getting an X18-M in this situation unless you can get it at the same price as an equivalent X25-M after the cost of the adapter, etc.
