    Trying to decide between two 15.4" laptops at Dell.ca - the XPS1530 and new Inspiron 1525. Both are available with either the Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5450 (1.66GHz/667Mhz FSB/2MB cache) or Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7250 (2.0MHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache) processors.

Price difference is $100CDN for the XPS1530 but ends up being $320CDN on the 1525 right now because of a discount on the slower chip model.

As a non-gamer who will use the laptop for some Stata, SAS along with typical web/word processing/webcam/DVD/music use can I expect much difference from the upgrade? Would you pay $100 or more for the T7250?

I doubt you would see much if any improvement by going for the T7250 if you don't game or do any other CPU intense task.

I would say it is not worth it.

Others may disagree, but if I were to upgrade at all, I would either jump to the T7500 with 4MB cache or not bother at all. I think the jump in cache is more important than the increase in raw clock speed. Unfortunately, last time I checked, the T7500 is not an option for the 1525.

Also, I would lean toward the XPS unit over the Inspiron. I believe the components/build quality is generally better, and a friend of mine who actually works for Dell advises that, when it comes to support, an XPS owner will generally get routed to Dell's "better" support staff over someone calling to get support on an Inspiron. He didn't elaborate on that.

As I said, others may disagree...just my $0.02. I'm trying to force myself to drop the hammer on a 1530 purchase myself, just haven't done it...

Hi All... I am going through the same dilema here for Inspiron 1520... But dell today increase the price of the upgrade from 2800 INR($65) to 5300($130) INR... I am holding back the order for that.. to me the upgrade is not worth of $130 but I want badly the advantage(mentally??)....so. holding the order till new news come...(the price of Inpiron not changed for a while.. so I am expecting a change in base price or base config like typical Dell fasion)

And for info.. XPS customers will be redirected to the XPS premier Cust rep.. but I have a dought that you have "better" rep there as because the same people will work in XPS service... (At least in B'lore India) I have a friend in dell cust rep and he told that there was rotating facility for XPS service... So its a mare marketing Gimmic to me..
