    Hi all,

I have just formatted my Inspiron 1420 (with x3100) and reinstalled Windows Vista.

After reinstalling Windows, I installed the following Intel drivers, which should be the latest as I downloaded them in Intel Download Centre:

    1) IntelĀ® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows Vista * 32 Version 15.9.1472
    2) RAID/AHCI Software - IntelĀ® Matrix Storage Manager Version 8.2.0.1001
    3) INF Update Utility - Zip Format (2231KB) Version 9.0.0.1008

... and other essential drivers such as sound, nic... etc

My laptop works fine after installing drivers, but there is an issue when I connect my laptop to the AC power (from using battery to AC power as well as charging).

The issue is that, when AC power is connected, the monitor will be switched off for a short while, about 2 seconds. After that, a message saying "igfx driver has stopped responding, but recovered" is shown at the bottom right corner. Windows then searches for solution, but nothing is returned.

I then uninstall the display driver downloaded from Intel and install the latest display driver downloaded from DELL support page, version 7.14.10.1409.

No such issue after downgrading the display driver. However, I have encountered another issue.

Originally, I could adjust the brightness of the monitor to 7 different levels. But after using an older driver, only 4 levels can be chosen.

Say I have 7 levels of brightness, namely (Darkest) A,B,C,D,E,F,G (Brightest). When I adjust the brightness from A to D, the brightness of the monitor will not be further increased, even QuickSet shows that the brightness is increasing to E,F,G. In short, only brightness levels A to D are effective.

Are the above 2 issues bugs?
    Anyone encounters the same problems?

    Thanks.

Remove the drivers and use manually use Windows Update to scan for the latest update and install that.
